1994 was a great year but wow, little did I know! Here I was excited about my first job at U.P.S. while a student at South Carolina State University, 30 minutes up I-26, 44 ladies of the working class had bigger goals. Although my favorite artist, Mary J. Blige, had dropped “My Life“, little did I like that there was a group of ladies making some astonishing graduation level noise. True I bought my first car, a 1994 Honda Accord EX Coupe, that year same group of women were on the move uniting likeminded females to handle a major task.
44 members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated went through the necessary hoops and horizons to have the second chapter created in the Columbia Metropolitan area. The name approved was the Richland County Alumnae Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. They have become affectionately called ‘”RCA.”
On April 27, 2019, a number of those charter members were joined with current RCA members, national DST officers, past RCA members and other Deltas (and me) to celebrate 25 years of Sisterhood, Scholarship & Service at their Silver Anniversary Celebration Brunch.
It was a grand event and I was glad to have been chosen to photograph the event. I did my research on Dr. Bertha Maxwell Roddey.
I now know why she was held in such high regard like the GODMOTHER. An amazing lady!!!
Anywho, here is what I saw …
… and that is just a taste. Here is a link to the other images: RCA 25th Anniversary! It was good to see so many friends/old co-workers/fellow alums/church members/associates celebrate a great occasion. I always felt that MARY’S JOINT (a song off of Mary J. Blige’s album) was the dopest female thing to happen in 1994 but the Deltas making strides to better tomorrow’s leaders and service the community gives MJB some serious competition.
